Advanced driver assistance systems (FAQ)
Back to FAQAn advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) — guided primarily by a camera positioned behind the windshield, along with other sensors — is responsible for monitoring a vehicle’s environment and detecting potentially dangerous situations. The goal is to increase safety and reduce the possibility of a collision.
The main ADAS component impacted is the front camera, which acts as an image-processing sensor providing data concerning the road around you.
Following a windshield replacement, your front camera must be recalibrated to ensure it works as intended. Otherwise, your safety system runs the risk of becoming deficient or decreasing in effectiveness.
Absolutely not! Despite the fact that almost all vehicle manufacturers require your front camera to be calibrated following a windshield replacement, there’s nothing written in stone that says your dealership has to do it.
On the contrary — you can count on our experts to take care of it immediately following your windshield replacement!
At Lebeau, we have the expertise and equipment to recalibrate all makes and models of vehicles.
There are three types of recalibration, which vary based on your vehicle’s make and model: static, dynamic, and universal.
Static recalibration must be performed at a service centre suited for recalibration and requires the use of targets unique to each manufacturer mounted on a device at the front of the vehicle. This can take up to an hour or slightly more, depending on your vehicle’s make and model.
Dynamic recalibration requires driving the vehicle at a speed and distance defined by the manufacturer on well-marked roads to recalibrate the front camera. Like static, this takes up to an hour, depending on your vehicle’s make and model.
Finally, universal calibration involves a combination of the static process followed by the dynamic process.
The cost of calibration varies depending on the type of calibration required and your vehicle’s make and model.
If you file an insurance claim (if applicable), the cost could be covered and you would, therefore, not pay a cent.
